The proposed course must meet the following
stated AFA educational goals and objectives:
Criterion 1: A primary focus of the
course must clearly be on the roles, contributions,
and/or experiences of peoples of African descent in
Africa and/or the Diaspora. Please explain how your
course meets this goal.

Criterion 2: The course must enable
students to identify and analyze race and identity-based
assumptions and biases and to recognize their consequences
on individual, social, and cultural levels. Explain specifically
how your course does this.

Criterion 3: Course content must reflect
established as well as recent scholarship on African,
African-American and/or Caribbean Studies. Explain specifically
how your course does this, as exemplified in a detailed
course description.

Criterion 4: In keeping with effective
classroom pedagogy, the instructor should use teaching
techniques which encourage written and oral communication,
teacher-student and a student-student collaboration, active
learning, and real world involvement. Explain specifically
how this is accomplished in your course.
